She captured our hearts in 1984 when she became first American woman to win Olympic gold in the all-around competition. More than three decades later, she was the first woman inducted into the Houston Sports Hall of Fame.
And she was the first inductee to break tradition and ask for a HOF pendant instead of a ring.

Fred Cuellar of Diamond Cutters International obliged, designing a dazzling one with the five Olympic rings in 3D floating across the frame.
“I wanted to be honest to the Olympic rings and have them telescope out on either side as though they were being pulled away from the pave and have perfect symmetry of the rings,’’ Cuellar said.
And on the back? Instead of simply engraving it, he cut into engraving casting plate “Mary Lou America’s Sweetheart.” And then took a laser and cut a hole for a gold Houston Sports Hall of Fame logo and dropped it in like a puzzle-piece.
Her pendant has 255 investment-grade Canary Yellow and Vivid White diamonds.
