EARL CAMPBELL
CLASS OF 2018

Earl Campbell was Nolan Ryan’s football counterpart. Both were born and raised in Texas and Campbell, too, was larger than life, especially to the kids.

With those powerful legs, Campbell was big and seemingly unstoppable out of the backfield. He was the heart of the Love Ya Blue Oilers of the late 1970s, and Otterstad also gave a nod to quarterback Dan Pastorini, the soul of those teams, by tucking him in the background, not knowing he would enter the Hall a year later.

“All those Luv Ya Blue Oilers, for those of us who remember them, were legends,’’ Otterstad said. “And Earl was the engine that drove the bus.’’
